Just in time for the holiday, Ensemble Theatre Company presents its first play of the new season, the Broadway hit The Thanksgiving Play, written by Native American playwright Larissa FastHorse and directed by Brian McDonald.
Good intentions collide with absurd assumptions in the wickedly funny satire as a troupe of terminally “woke” teaching artists scramble to create an elementary school pageant that somehow manages to celebrate both Turkey Day and North American Heritage Month.
Devin Sidell was perfect as the project’s director, with Adam Hagenbuch and Will Block throwing in wildly differing colorful ideas, along with Ashley Platz as the beguiling actress.
A flawed project done terribly well.
Fittingly, the show wraps on October 22, four weeks before Thanksgiving.
