YMCA’s Capital Campaign
Coming to the close of its annual Capital Campaign, the YMCA is still $40,000 short of its goal to raise $125,000. “We are currently working with the Santa Barbara resource network to provide free memberships to families affected by the January 9 debris flow, in addition to our normal program and membership subsidies,” said executive director Mike Yamasaki. “Now more than ever, our community needs a sanctuary that provides a safe place for families to gather and programs that promote both physical and emotional strength.”
Yamasaki estimates that hundreds of Montecito YMCA members were directly affected by the mudslide, dealing with loss of life, damaged or destroyed homes, and struggling businesses. “Each year, we provide nearly $200,000 in scholarships, and this year there is even greater need. Any size gift is appreciated and will make a difference! A gift of $250 provides a local family in need with full access to the YMCA for two months,” he said.
