Navy League Announces Officers

The Santa Barbara Navy League held its annual meeting at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum recently to announce its new slate of officers and board members and to reflect on the accomplishments of the last year. The organization’s president, Karen Crawford, who took over a year ago, pointed out how the Navy League’s calendar had stayed packed with activities, including visits from military dignitaries and tours of rarely seen marine vessels such as the USS Los Angeles.

“2007 promises to be just as busy as 2006 as we work to fund similar events and activities, creating standing committees for USS Ronald Reagan and Operation Interdependence,” Crawford said. “We are hopeful of bringing some ships to Santa Barbara, which is so essential in our ability to educate the public, enrich youth programs, to honor the crew and their families and to offer a little rest and relaxation.”

Crawford honored outgoing Navy League Treasurer Bob Hammett, who received the Santa Barbara Navy League 2006 Outstanding Board Member Award. Steve Miller, a board member, caterer and facilitator of ship visits, received the same award for his contributions to the Navy League over the past five years.

Also in attendance was United States Coast Guard Rear Admiral Jody A. Breckenridge, who reviewed current strategies in the Coast Guard for homeland security and the issues it faces daily.

Navy League officers for 2007 are: Karen L. Crawford (president), Grant Ivey (vice president), Melissa Gough (vice president), Doug Crawford (vice president), Kristine Mollenkopf (judge advocate) and Sister Christine Bowman (secretary).

The members of the Board of Directors for 2007 are Ed Barnum, Rich Box, Ed Carr, Ernest Cowell, Paul Fritz, Lin Graf, Andy Long, Connie Los, Stan Los, Leslie Lund, John McGowan, Corey Medema, Mike Roberts, Ed Szeyller and Kathleen Yabsley.
