The Montecito Association, spearheaded by Village Fourth Chairman Diane Pannkuk and co-ordinator Dana Newquist held and arranged for another perfect Fourth of July Parade & Celebration on a sunny, pleasant Montecito day.
Prior to the parade, Montecito Fire District boosters, some 700 or so, attended the firehouse breakfast.
Thirty-four float entries participated, and some of the vehicles included the MERRAG van, a Montecito Fire Department engine, an All-American T-Bird, and Richard Mann’s vintage Buick; “Henry’s” fire engine brought up the rear as the last float, signifying the traditional end of the parade.
Parade goers and participants filtered down into Lower Manning Park (ongoing bridge construction on Santa Rosa did not present a problem) for games of skill (tug-o-war, sack races, pie-eating) and games of fun (large bouncers), and a little Dixieland jazz (the De Siples of Jass).
It was, in effect, just another day in this great place we call home.
