Adopt a Pet
By Karen Lee Stevens
Shasta is a big, beautiful 3-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with energy to burn. K9 PALS's volunteer Thom Zimerle cautions that Shasta isn't small and docile, so she'll need someone who is strong and assertive to love and guide her. Although her large size (90 pounds) may cause her to unintentionally knock over smaller kids, she is very good with children 10 years and older. This sweetheart gets along with cats and is eager to please. An active person or family will find Shasta to be a great playmate and devoted friend.
Shasta is available for adoption from K9 PALS, a volunteer organization that cares for dogs awaiting homes at the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter. In addition to performing behavior and temperament tests on each dog, the volunteers at K9 PALS give each dog oodles of attention, they counsel adopters to ensure they are getting a dog that best suits their lifestyle, and they provide four, free training sessions for all new adopters to help them learn to communicate and bond with their new best friend. To meet Shasta, stop by K9 PALS at 5473 Overpass Road, off Patterson Avenue, or call 681-4369.
